Show Mayor Broadbentfisks Power Company For Area Rate Study Mayor L. V. Broadbent has made a formal appeal to the Southern Utah Power Company for a detailed review of rate schedules of the area served by the company, for the purpose of determining whether a better rate schedule for Cedar City power pow-er users could be adopted. The mayor pointed out that about 70 per cent of the residential residen-tial users of the power company system are concentrated in Cedar City, and that the balance are scattered throughout southwestern southwest-ern Utah. He maintained that taking these facts into consideration considera-tion the rates in force are not equitable for Cedar City compared com-pared with the other areas. Because Be-cause of this he proposes a rate differential. Mayor Eroadbent made his proposal pro-posal in a letter addressed to the power company, in which he said: "I would appreciate it if the power company could begin a rate study for the various types of service over the system so that we could determine the actual ac-tual cost of serving customers in the various areas. "This information will be needed before the Public Service Serv-ice Commission would hear the case. I feel that the sooner it could be started the sooner the proper adjustment might be made. "I believe that the proper solution so-lution of the discrepancy between be-tween rates is of interest to the Southern Utah Power Company and the residents of Cedar City. I feel that in light of the recent election Cedar City has given a vote of confidence to the power company for the services it is rendering. If it is possible in any way to ease the high rate situation situa-tion here, I feel reasonably sure that we will not have to fight out a municipal power proposition proposi-tion and that the power company com-pany will be able to continue its service for Cedar City for the entire en-tire duration of the franchise." |
