Show City Manager Pushes For Quieter Main Street Traffic A program designed to create quieter truck driving on Main Street in Cedar City, particularly particular-ly during the night time, has been started through the cooperative coop-erative effort of City Manager F. E. McNutt and the major truck companies who operate lines on Highway 91. The city manager and the company com-pany representatives have started start-ed a campaign to seek the support sup-port of truck drivers, in keeping the noise of their trucks to an absolute minimum as they drive through the city. The grade on Main Street Is very heavy, which has had a tendency ten-dency to Increase the noise of trucks, particularly those traveling travel-ing south. However, company officials of-ficials are of the opinion that if drivers really made the effort they could reduce the noise considerably. con-siderably. Mr. McNutt suggests that with the truckers showing willing cooperation co-operation on the program the local automobile drivers also cooperate co-operate in keeping down noise, lie states that young people, particularly, race their motors much more than necessary, and points out that the use of muffler muf-fler cutouts Is absolutely inexcusable, inex-cusable, especially at night time and in the area where hotels and motels are located. |
