Show Workshops Will Highlight Dramatic Offering At College of Southern Utah Summer School The College of Southern Utah drama department is offering a course of unusual interest to directors di-rectors and other participants in community and church drama, according to Dr. Royden C. Bralth-waite, Bralth-waite, C S U director. The summer session program got under way Monday morning, June 6, and will continue for six weeks until July. 15. The course In directing, listed as Speech and Drama 146, Stage directing, di-recting, is being taught by Prof. Richard M. Rowley. It offers three quarter hours credit in the upper division. It will be divided into three separate workshops of two weeks end. In the first two weeks casting and blocking of stage business will be emphasized. During the second two weeks the coaching of actors and interpretation interpre-tation of lines will be stressed, with makeup, lighting, costume and staging occupying most of the time during the final two weeks of the session. Students will be allowed to attend one or two of the two weeks units, but no credit will be given for less than the full six weeks. In connection with this course, and serving as a laboratory for it, will be a Young People's Theatre program. One or two full scale productions for young people peo-ple will be put on by the students stu-dents enrolled In this course. Those enrolled In the directing class will observe and assist with the direction of these productions. produc-tions. Young people of all ages, including high school graduates, will be eligible to participate In the Young People's Theatre program. pro-gram. Another course of Interest to teachers and students in this area Is the course In advanced Composition being offered during the summer session. This course, listed as English 110, is required for graduation from either C S U or U S A C with the bachelor of science degree. It will offer four credits and will meet two hours daily Monday through Thursday. Thurs-day. Friday will be left open for students who wish to participate in the series of week-end trips planned for the summer session. |
