Show SHERIFF LISTS PROCEDURE i . I Permits Needed for Forest Burning Utah's Chief Forester Firewarden Firewar-den has proclaimed a closed season sea-son making all unpermitted fires on Utah forests and watersheps Illegal. Arthur D. Smith noted in his proclamation that most of Utah's mountain areas have received subnormal amounts of winter precipitation and have been subjected sub-jected to an unusually dry spring season and it will be necessary to practice extreme vigilance to prevent widespread destruction of our watersheds by wild fire. Utah's burning permit system allows al-lows land owners and others to use fire for trash disposal and range land Improvement purposes pur-poses while checking indisrimln-ate indisrimln-ate and careless use of fires. Explain Closed Season During the closed season as designated by the chief forester, the law requires anyone desiring desir-ing to set on fire any forest, range, grass or brush lands a written permit issued by a county coun-ty or district firewarden. It is the firewarden's responsibility to assure as-sure himself that adequate safeguards safe-guards are provided to protect life and property. Securing a permit per-mit does not relieve a burner of liability for a fire he may set but It does alert all protective agencies of the presence of a fire saving many dollars in need- less "Smoke Chasing." Sheriff Firewarden Arthur Nelson Nel-son of Iron County listed four important points to remember; (1) Check with me to see if the type fire you .expect to light re-i re-i quires a permit; (2) Request a written permit stating the place, time and reason for your fire; (3) Be extremely careful with any fire, and (4) If weather conditions con-ditions take an abrupt change after you, have started the fire, do not hesitate to call immediately immed-iately for help. Sheriff Nelson requested all citizens for their aid in preventing prevent-ing wild fire losses so that Utah's watersheds Will be able to produce pro-duce maximum quantities of useable'water. |
