Show "Iron County" L ST To Be Named By Navy on July 1 "Iron County" has been designated desig-nated as the name of an LST (landing ship, tank), and an LST previously known as No. 810 will assume that name on July 1, under un-der a new naming program of the Navy. Under this program LSTs will be given names of counties throughout the United States. There is only one catch to the LST "Iron County" according to R. D. Hooton, local recruiter. That Is that the LST will honor Utah's Iron County but Iron Counties In Michigan, Missouri and Wis-con Wis-con will also be so honored. Each of those states, also have an Iron County, he pointed out. Representatives of the counties for whom the LSTs are to be named, original sponsors who christened the ships when they were launched, and families of crews will be Invited to attend official ship-naming ceremonies for each LST. |
