Show Utah Safety Council ! Launches Driver Education Program Two highly significant moves in the direction of improved traf-'tic traf-'tic safet were launched by the! il'tah Satety Council during the past few d'ajs. The tir-.t action ;was the announcement that a j series of trattic court conferences jare to tie held throughout the state beginning about .Now 1."). I The second action was the announcement an-nouncement that the council's legislative committee would meet Aug. IS to draw up detailed legl.s- lathe recommendations concern- itlg drher education in the state's 1 high schools. I The traffic court conleronco will follow the general pattern 'of the conferences held during the winter of l'.t.Vi, but on a much broader scale, the safety council reported. They will :c regional in nature and about 12 separate meetings will be scheduled in convenient locations about the state. Special attention will be devoted to important weaknesses of present court and law enforcement enforce-ment policies and procedures, the announcement said. The safety council's plans relative rela-tive to driver education are motivated mo-tivated by the increasing involvement involve-ment of our youth in accidents on the one hand, and the serious deterioration of the driver education edu-cation program on the other hand. The only solution to this problem, according to the safety council, is a universal, high standard driver education program pro-gram in every high school, available avail-able to every eligible student. This deficiency was severely criti-cozed criti-cozed by the National Safety Council in a special report submitted sub-mitted earl this summer. |
