Show CSU Dept. Head Tells Kiwanis Club of Educational Problems Twain Tippetts, head of the speech and drama department of the College of Southern Utah and a director of the Utah Education Association, addressed the members mem-bers of the Kiwanis Club of Cedar City last Monday evening in their regular session. Mr. Tippetts discussed for the Kiwanis members the educational education-al situation of the nation and state with his remarks directed to the recent supreme court ruling rul-ing that denied racial segregation segrega-tion in the public schools. His remarks were based on a recent national education convention con-vention that he attended as a Utah delegate in New York City this summer. Shows Scenic Slides In connection with his address he showed a number of outstanding outstand-ing slides of scenic and historical histori-cal spots of the nation that he had taken going and coming to the national convention. Dealing with the particular situation of education in Utah he i emphasized the point that "we I should tax our resources where they are and educate the children chil-dren where they are." Continuing Continu-ing along this line he pointed out that Iron County is the second sec-ond richest county in the 3tate but that we are way down the list in population, a complete switch from a number of years ago, and, he continued, we should see and understand the situations are they really are. In his discussion of the pictures pic-tures that he showed at the meeting he pointed out the significance sig-nificance of travel and what it I means to know our country and 'to know of other scenic wonders other than those that surround us here in Cedar City. |
