Show Parowan Council Studies Money Problems At the regular meeting of the City Council on Monday evening City Recorder Verda E. Adams reported to the council that it would be necessary to borrow money in the sum of $3,000, to pay off some past due obligations obliga-tions and to carry the city over the period until the new power plant at Paragonah is in operation. oper-ation. Funds in need of extra finance at this time were the public safety, safe-ty, for the payment of the contract con-tract on the patrol car, the recreation rec-reation department to meet the city's portion of this expenditure, and for transfer to the library fund. A resolution was passed by the council instructing city attorney Durham Morris to prepare forms for the purpose of borrowing the above amount of money from the Bank of Iron County on a tax anticipation note at an interest rate of 4 per cent. Upon a report from the city attorney at-torney that there is a maximum levy that can be set by municipal corporations for recreation purposes, pur-poses, a change had to be mad in the Parowan city levy as set last week, although no change was made in the total. At that time a levy of one mill was set for recreation purposes whereas the legal limit for such purpose is .7.") of a mill. One mill had also been levied for public affairs and finance, which was also found to be undesirable. It was decided to levy 1.2.") mills for waterworks supplies and equipment and ."!? of a mill for iccreation, leaving the rest of the levy as was set last week. Mrs. Adams also stated that in the immediate past two burials bur-ials had been made by the sexton sex-ton with no fees for burial being be-ing paid and no arrangements made for such payment, which is a violation of a city ordinance. The parks and cemetery committee commit-tee was instructed to look into this and make collections if possible pos-sible and see that it is not repeated. |
