Show City Council Keeps Tax Levy Same as 1953 The City Council in meeting last Thursday officially set the 1954 tax levy for city purposes at 26.3 mills, the same as last year. Not only was the total levy the same as last year, but the levy for each department was left the same. The three major levies are for bond interest and sinking fund, streets and sidewalks, and for public safety. The levy for bond interest and sinking fund was again set at 5.23 mills, with a five mill levy set up for the other oth-er two departments, public safety and streets and sidewalks. The next highest levy was for the general fund which was again set at four mills. Other levies le-vies were: parks and public property, 2 mills; sewer, .72 of a mill; city hall, .65 of a mill; recreation, rec-reation, .5 of a mill; public library, lib-rary, 1.7 mills, and airport, 1.5 mills, for the total of 26.3. |
