Show NOTICE El Escalante Hotel will close for business October 20, 1949 for the Winter Season. I The Escalante Hotel, operated by the Utah Parks Company, a subsidiary of the Union Pacific Railroad Company, wishes to ex press its appreciation to me people peo-ple of Cedar City, Utah for the loyal support they have given it throughout the past years. Ever since the Union Pacific Railroad Company purchased the unfinished building from the citizens of Cedar City and completed com-pleted the structure in the early 20s, the operation of the hotel has been a losing proposition and the total loss to date has reached an almost unbelievable figure. The Company regrets having hav-ing to take this drastic step at this time but it has reached the point when it becomes necessary neces-sary to take action towards curb-I curb-I ing this great loss. Since the War period several fine motels, of which Cedar City can be proud, have been constructed con-structed and put into operation. These motels in addition to the several local hotels can ade-modations ade-modations during the winter modations during the Winter months. The greatest loss to the City in closing the Escalante Hotel will be the lack of facilities for serv-ing serv-ing large banquet groups. In consideration con-sideration of this handicap to the citizens we have decided to continue con-tinue to serve the Rotary Club, the Lions Club and other large groups this winter on a trial basis. Radio Station KSUB and the Deseret News will occupy their same quarters in the Hotel during dur-ing the winter. El Escalante Hotel will re-open next spring, the exact date to be announced later. W.
