Show Enterprise Farmers To Harvest 472 Acres of Potatoes Enterprise: The potato harvest in the Enterprise area is well underway, with 472 acres to be harvested during this and next week. A few of the farmers in the area who used mechanical methods meth-ods for killing the vines have been harvesting for some time, but the majority who depended on the frost for vine killing started their harvest last week. Students from the elementary and high schools, who were on vacation while the instructors attended at-tended the UEA convention in Salt Lake City reported for work in the fields. In addition they were released from school Monday Mon-day for the annual harvest vacation. va-cation. This vacation period is arranged by Principal Leon A. Westover with the co-operation of the county board of education and is held every fall to assist the farmers in the annual potato pota-to harvest. A large number of Navajos and Mexicans are employed in the area for this year's harvest. According to Arthur P. Jones, Washington county representative representa-tive for the Producers Marketing Association, there are 472 acres 1 of potatoes in the Enterprise area with only about 100 acres in the remainder of the county. He reports thas year's crop to be normal as compared to the average av-erage of the last ten years. The now famous "Enterprise" potatoes are being harvested and shipped to southern markets as rapidly as possible. The remainder remain-der of the crop is being put into in-to storage for marketing later j in the year. |
