Show I Junior High School News This year the Junior rjigh is trying out a new report card system. Instead of marking the old A, B, C method, the committee com-mittee working for new ideas has decided upon a new method. Rather than sending a card home every six weeks, as has been the system in former years, it was decided that all teachers will meet together and check their rolls. As a student's name is called each teacher that has the student in his class will give a report of what kind of work he is doing in his class. The homeroom home-room teacher will make a note of how the student is working. Then the parents of the students stu-dents will be invited to school and the home room teacher will tell the parents what progress the student has made. On the old cards, the parents had no way of telling Just how the student was acting and working. Now they will be able to tell by hearing it first hand, and will not misinterpret the marks on the cards. There will be two or these parent-teacher conferences during the year. There will also be two cards sent home in the mail. By sending the In " cards home in the mail, those students who can't possibly make a high grade will be saved the embarrassment often caused when another students asks to I see his card. These cards will have differ-end differ-end class medians on them. They will have a median for the faster, fast-er, harder working students, and diff-erent medians for the slower less studious ones. In addition to these medians, there will be listed several capabilities the teachers will mark the students capabilities and what level he is working on. The parent can then see if the student is work-Ig work-Ig to full capacity. This will also give the student stu-dent who was getting Cs and D.s a change to work to his full capacity and get a higher rating rat-ing on his median. This type of report card is new to our school and no one knows yet just how it will work out. If you have any ideas concerning concern-ing this important matter, please contact our principal, Mr. L. C. Miles at the Junior high school. jWe would sincerely like your opinion. Dick Madson, Reporter |
