Show Government Warns Nation of Files on Strategic Information Efforts of unfriendly nations to build up files of strategic intelligence in-telligence on the United States, are doubling, Gus P. Backman, executive wee-chairman of the Utah Council of Defense was informed in-formed Thursday by Government agencies. Through the various county defense councils, through chambers of commerce, trade associations as-sociations and private and individual indi-vidual industries, he has been asked to sound a warning against allowing materials on certain resources, industries, utilities, util-ities, cities and public works providing pro-viding what would normally be unclassified materials, but which may fit into a subversive picture. Most requests are for booklets, documents, road and facility maps and their significance is frequently overlooked. Recently a request was made in Los Angeles, An-geles, to be sent post haste, for a detailed description of the Los Angeles water system. It was not sent. Most of these requests, according accord-ing to information transmitted to Mr. Backman, originate from overseas agencies or their representatives repre-sentatives in the United States and are directed to civilian firms, chambers of commerce, and others. oth-ers. Private citizens and business firms in Utah who receive such requests of potential strategic Intelligence value should refer them to the Salt Lake office of the department of Commerce, who will in turn refer them to the nearest military headquarters headquar-ters or to the department of Commerce, office of International Trade, Washington 25, D.
