Show Dr. Murrrays orthopedic practice helped Francis Ed Francis had not been able to use his left knee is any normal capacity for a very long time. Just walking around the block was virtually vir-tually impossible. In his own words, he was "using his left leg as a stump." His wife, Sara Francis, recounts the event of September when Ed was supposed to have knee surgery, "When Ed went in for the pre-op tests for his knee surgery at St. Marks, they discovered that he needed to have heart surgery. He ended up with a triple bypass at St. Marks in September instead of a new knee." While Mr. Francis was recu perating from this operation, he began to hear many good comments about Dr. Pepper Murray, a Bountiful Boun-tiful native who was about to start an orthopedic practice at Lakeview Hospital. He decided to give the new doctor a try. Now one month after the operation, opera-tion, Mr. and Mrs. Francis are ecstatic about the progress he has made. Dr. Murray used a new prosthesis pro-sthesis in Mr. Francis' knee, one that had never been used at Lakeview Hospital before. "Ed was on his feet just 22 hours after his surgery, and he never even needed a knee brace," exclaims his wife. "He now walks around the block everyday with just the help of one crutch and the doctor says that he won't even need that very much longer. ' Dr. Pepper Murray has been in practice at Lakeview since early January. His training at Harvard Medical School and subsequent residency at the Mayo Clinic have allowed him to bring new techniques techni-ques to Lakeview Hospital in the areas of total hip, shoulder, elbomy and knee replacements. f ' Mrs. Francis commented on Dr. Murray's accomplishments, "Everyday that Ed was at Lakeview, Dr. Murray would have to brief the nurses on the new techniques that he was using so that they would know how to properly care for his patients. We think that he is a great asset to the hospital. ' ' Dr. Murray prides himself on providing cutting-edge care in many areas of orthopedics, including in-cluding arthroscopic shoulder stabilizations, arthroscopy of the knee with limited incisions. He recently returned from Wash, ington, D.C. where he presented to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Or-thopaedic Surgeons a paper that he co-authored on total hip replacements. |
