Show Carr relates printing history WL LB By DR. DOLORES HANSEN Members of the Centerville-y'armington Centerville-y'armington Rotary Club enjoyed traveling back in time at a recent Thursday breakfast meeting. Vernon B. Carr of Carr Printing related a brief history of printing Ofrom carved wooden blocks to computers and how his company has changed over the years. OWhen he first began working, typesetting a single page was done by hand, took an hour to an hour and a half, and used 150-175 pieces of metal type. Since 1902 Carr Printing has produced the print materials for elections in all 29 Utah counties. An expert in election statutes, Carr has testified at the Utah Legislature on several occasions. He believes that we all need to be involved in politics, to vote intelligently, intel-ligently, and to become a candidate if qualified. Carr was the mayor of Centerville for eight years in the '50s and '60s and has served on the Deuel Creek Irrigation Board for 37 years and the South Davis Sewer District board for 24 years. The Centerville-Farmington Rotary meets each Thursday at 6:50 a.m. at Centerville Junior High School. VERNON B. CARR |
