N - ...... m r - - m By BRET GALLACHER Sports Writer NORTH SALT LAKE Some big hitters for Bountiful and blustery weather conditions combined com-bined to hand the lady Wildcats their first Softball loss of the year Thursday 10-4. Bountiful's Casey Erickson connected on a double in the top of the fourth to cap off a six-run six-run inning which put the game out of reach. "We gave up five walks in the inning," said Woods Cross coach Stan Buchanan. "But the weather may have' had something to do with our inability to control the ball." After three innings the score was tied 4-4 when a storm rolled through. The slick ball did seem to hurt the Cats as everything the Braves put into play seemed tricky to handle. After the third out in the top of the inning, the weather cleared up and Bountiful had little trouble registering three quick outs as time expired to end the contest. "We really cut down on the big inning which has hurt us so far this year," said Bountiful coach Bob Hackmeiser. "We were a lot more consiste.it in the field as well. We're really coming around." Along with Ericksons big hit, the Braves also got good perfor-mances perfor-mances from Kristen Stromberg. The senior pitcher was consistent throughout the afternoon, with good ball control and few mistakes on the mound. Another senior, Jenny Miller, had a 2-for-4 afternoon which keeps her average just around .450 on the year. The win moves the lady Braves to 3-2 overall, and 2-1 in region play. The Wildcats got outstanding performances at the plate from Randi Slack and Lori Kirkwood, who each registered 2-for-3 performances. per-formances. The loss drops Woods Cross record to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in region. OUTTA THERE: Despite coming up short on this play, Bountiful Boun-tiful came up big with a 10-4 region victory over rival Woods Cross. (Clipper photo by Ron Osborn) |
