Show 4 Davis County economics continue an upward trend CLEARFIELD Economic conditions continue their upward trend in Davis County, as new stores announce an-nounce opening plans and at least one firm announces a comeback. Information released by Jack Bailey, manager of . Davis County Job Service, reflects a variety of activity demonstrating continued growth in the economic picture pic-ture of the county. Here is a brief review of this economic activity. Standard Optical is opening a new store in the Layton Hills Mall. The new store, the chain's 12th in Utah, will feature an on-premise finishing laboratory. An $8 million contract has been awarded to design and manufacture the world's largest roller coaster to Arrow Dynamics Inc. of Clearfield. The manufacturer of amusement park rides will create the roller coaster for Blackpool Pleasure Beach amusement park in Lancashire, Lan-cashire, England. A pet food and supply "superstore" will be built in Layton adjoining State Highway 232. The 25,000 square-foot PETsMART will be built in a warehouse style and sell pet food, medication, fish and birds, in addition to offering obedience training centers and grooming facilities for dogs. It is anticipated that 30 will be employed in the Layton store. Granite Furniture has opened its new Layton store near the Interstate 15Layton Hills Mall exit. The store employs approximately 60 and includes a full range of ! furniture goods. A formal grand opening is planned. The 50-year-old pipe fabrication firm, Associated! Piping and Engineering, is making a comeback in its ! same Clearfield location after having closed in late-1990. late-1990. Some of the same investors are backing the com-! pany. However, the firm will now operate under the name of North American Piping Technologies. - Payless Drug has opened a new outlet in the former Albertson's store at the comer of 500 South and Main-Street Main-Street in Bountiful. Employment is anticipated at about 40. A new Payless Drug is also planned for Layton to j be built adjacent to the new Albertson's store at 10th North and Fairfield Road later this year. Construction is under way on a 27,000 square-foot addition to Kraft Food Services Distribution Center in the Free port Center. North Davis Cabinet is planning to build a new 20,000 square-foot manufacturing plant at 300 West Antelope, where they are currently housed in a smaller facility. The Layton Village Shopping Center continue to grow. The center, located on North Main Street in Layton, is anchored by WallMart. Skipper's Seafood and Chowder House and Taco Bell are already open, with Kentucky Fried Chicken and Blimpie's Sandwich ! stores under construction. |
