Show 2 Davis Co. residents to travel to Holland Two Davis County residents will be among six outstanding Utah academicians aca-demicians traveling to Holland this summer as reward for their accomplishments ac-complishments at the 8th Academic Olympiad sponsored by Utah State University. Davis High School's academic coach Genene C. Hill will accompany accom-pany the academic all-star team after coaching DHS to yet another first-place win. This year's DHS team of David Hansen, Loren Hulse, Jonathan King , Eric McPherson , David Nicoll, Catherine Packer, Michael Sherman and Kirk S ore n sen made their alma mater the first school ever to win the team competition three consecutive years. Utah businesses contributed the money to send the coach of the winning team and the high point winner in each academic category to Holland to visit the academic team that participated in the USU Olympiad. The visitors will stay in team and coach homes, re ciprocating the hospitality shown to them last week in northern Utah,; , One Davis County student, Michael Brusse of Bountiful High School, will be amongst those traveling abroad. Brusse was a silver medalist in science , who received a four-year scholarship to USU in last year's competition. This year's scholarship winners from Davis County were Michael Putnam, DHS , science bronze medalist, fourth high point, 4-year scholarship; Kirk Sorensen, t)HS, high point bronze medalist, 4-year scholarship; David Hansen, DHS, fifth high point medalist, 4-year scholarship; Matthew Perry, BHS, mathematics bronze medalist,, ,1-year ,1-year scholarship; Wendy Jensen, BHS, fourth science medalist, ,1-year ,1-year scholarship; and Michael Sherman, DHS, fourth mathematics medalist, 1-year scholarship. Teams from Bountiful, Clearfield, Clear-field, Davis, Viewmont and Woods Cross high schools participated in this year's event. |
