Show In Your Opinion my letters. But since you feel differently and choose not to let the citizens know the whole truth, I'll just cancel my subscription then I won't have to write anymore letters to the editor, because I won't know what you're printing. Pearl Wendel Bountiful P.S. Yes, I read Mayor Linnell's article ar-ticle in the Tuesday, March -10, J992 edition. To me he merely reinforces rein-forces my argument that he does not want you printing anything about him nor Bountiful, without his approval. ap-proval. . ' Clipper efforts appreciated Editor: May I add to your recent public recognition my admiration for the quality of news you are making available to Davis County. As an avid consumer of newspaper infor-i infor-i mation, I have been impressed with your coverage and excellence in writing and layout, particularly over the past year. As a school principal I appreciate the efforts of your staff to accommodate accom-modate our requests for publicity and appreciate your coverage of other county school events. As a sports fan and a father of high school athletes, I also have a keen and critical interest in the sports section. I often compare stories in the Clipper with those in the daily papers and the quality of writing and layout is impressive. In fact the March 13 sports section and several recent community feature articles with new art and layout techniques prompted these comments. Improvements Im-provements in technology and writing are apparent. Please continue your efforts to make local news available in such great style. Jesse Taylor the publishereditor of the Beaver Press in your Weekend Paper (Jan. 17, 1992). The cartoon took up almost half the page. The editorial is titled, "Free press should tell whole truth." Then Mark Eddington used a large amount of space with his article ar-ticle entitled, 'No news not necessarily good news to Beaver citizens." The closing paragraph of the editorial reads, "The Beaver incident inci-dent has perhaps served as a wakeup call to sleeping publishers and editors in Utah to their responsibility respon-sibility to their communities. The free press that we all value must be demanded by the readers, the publishers, the editors and even the advertisers of every community." Then Mark Eddington begins his article with the following statement: "Hard-hitting, in-depth and probing are some of the adjectives journalism jour-nalism professors use to describe the type of reporting their students should aim for. " Then in his closing paragraph he states, "a newspaper is not a public relations vehicle to help politician; and government administrators look good." Gail, since you have taken ovei the Clipper as the publisher, th Clipper has bowed down to the demands of William Peters when he was chairman of the County Commission. Com-mission. I know you lied 'to me when you said you didn't, but truth! always win out. I was also told when I turned ir my second to last letter to the Clipper that they were not to prini anymore Linnell-bashing letters. So, apparently you have bowec down to his demands, also. In fact, Jieard you weren't printing anything about Mayor Linnell or Bountiful City without his approval, so I mailed the mayor a copy of my letter, since you wouldn't print it. We never see news of the county meetings anymore, either. As a publisher, doesn't it make you a hole curious to know what all of these politicians are hiding when they try to threaten you or buy you off to not make any remarks about them in your paper. It surely makes me curious ! Do all our public elected officials think they are God to take away our freedom of expres- sion? (Exodus 20:3-5) I thought it was headline news to hear that "Dub" Lawrence was running for congressman as a member of the Independent Party along with Dan Marriott for senator and Merrill Cook for governor. But after you have already bowed ' down to the dishonest politicians, I . guess you aren't man enough to eat '. humble pie and print anything like that in your paper. Or anything . about the several times Merrill ; Cook has spoken in Davis County. . So, I would like to cancel my : subscription to the Clipper and ask for a refund due me between now r and when my subscription runs out. . The Davis County Clipper has been coming in the Wendel name to s 175 East 200 South for 47 years but . it has steadily gone downhill. Espe-.
