Show Falcon Foram By KAREN WILCOX Two weeks into school and already we are off to a terrific start. During August, ZCMI held their annual Spirit Week High School Competition. Many events were scheduled such as a cheerleading competition, football weigh-in, a nerf basketball slam-dunk contest and a modeling contest. Clearfield High School is the proud recipient of the ZCMI Spirit Week trophy. Our cheerleaders' performance was outstanding, thanks to their great advisor Belinda Thompson, and the head cheerleader Stephanie Waite. The football team came in with about 40 team members. The new coach this year is Brent Lund, and we are expecting an exciting season with the football team. The basketball basket-ball team made their mark during Spirit Week with an outstanding performance made by Jeff Painter. Both our male and female models stole the modeling and received a $100 outfitfor their efforts. Congratulations Congra-tulations Shawn Dawson and Ryan Henderson! Darryl Tate from ZCMI said Clearfield won with all the support from fellow students. Thanks to everyone who came ! The trophy is displayed in the window case directly across from the school office. Another exciting event coming up is a 24-hour Run-a-thon which our cross country team is sponsoring. sponsor-ing. This event is a continuous running run-ning of one of the members of the cross country team which begins at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 and finishes at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. There will be about 30 participants partici-pants between both the girls' team and the boys' team. They will be running at Clearfield High. "We plan on covering about 144 miles," said Coach Paul Murray, coach of the girls' cross country team. The boys' coach, Dave Griffen, also is expecting a great performance. perform-ance. Team captains Tina Spencer and Layne Jacobson will lead the team through the vigorous 24 hours, and also into a great cross country season. The public is invited in-vited to watch CHS in their endeavor en-deavor on Sept. 16. That's about it for this week. Come and watch our runners! Oh, also Homecoming is Sept. 19-24. We will be playing Roy High on the 23rd and the dance is on the 24th. And by the way, certain members of the volleyball team have not been asked yet, well neither have I. Oh well, there is still hope! |
