Show Few voters cast few eirprie . m 988 Primary By GARY R BLODGETT FARMINGTON There were few votes cast and a few surprises sur-prises in Davis County's '88 Primary Election Tuesday, It was an extremely poor voter turnout which some prognastka-tors prognastka-tors said may have had a bearing on the final outcome. Nevertheless, Neverthe-less, voting in the major political races was very close. . A "voter trend" appeared to have been established in the early returns and in nearly every race in which the candidate took a lead, he or she never relinquished iL Such was the case in the race for the County Commission 2-year post in which former sheriff and recently turned Republican Dub Lawrence edged incumbent Commissioner Harold J. Tippetts by a slim margin of 6,853 to 6,350. It was a similar story in the race for county clerk between former Commissioner Glen Saunders and newcomer Margene lsom. Ms. Isom maintained a slim lead from the beginning and won a spot on the General Election ballot with 6,904 votes compared to 6,268 for Saunders. Newcomer Lane Beattie edged his Republican counterpart, John P. (Jack) Redd by a narrow margin of 2,799 to 2,615. in the Utah Senate representing District 23. In the three State Representative races, incumbent Scott W. Holt won easily over D. A, Fisher, 929 to 754 in District 14; Walter Bain, an incumbent, nipped former Farmington City Councilman Don S. -Redd, 1,767 to 1 ,690, in District 17; and Nancy Sonntag Lyon held a slim lead throughout the night to nip Loren D. Martin, 1 ,185 to 937. In the three non-partisan races for the Davis School District Board of Education, the two top vote-getters will advance to the General Election. ' Incumbent Ray Briscoe and Wayne O, Westergard were the top vote getters in Precinct One; Dan R Eastman and Shauna Nakaya were winners in Precinct Two; and Lynn L. Summerhays and Newell J. Law advanced to the General Election in Precinct Three. Briscoe garnered 712 votes while Westergard received 527 in Precinct One. Others were Theo Italasano, 305; Steven Thorsen, 22 1 ; Paul T. McGarry, 217; Lucene C. Hougaard, 147; and Theodore Theo-dore E. Kanell, 137. In Precinct Two, Shauna Nakaya was top vote getter with 1,209; Dan Eastman had 1,080; and Matt Gait received 940. Lynn Summerhays Sum-merhays won by a wide margin with 1 ,691 votes; Newell Law had 718; and J. David Potter and Edrice Christensen were close behind with 660 and 613 votes respectively. |
