Show Lay ton to drill new well w By DONETA GATHERUM LAYTON The Layton City council recently granted a bid of $260,890 to the Layne Western Corporation of Chandler, Ariz, for the drilling of a new culinary water well. The well which is thought to have the capability of producing between 1500 and 2000 gallons of water per minute, will be located on the corner of Church Street and Fairfield Road where the water storage tank is now located. Water from this well will service the area of Layton from Gordon Avenue to the south and from Fairfield Road to the west. The drilling will go to a depth of between 700 and 1000 feet. City officials hope the well will be operational by April or May of 1989. This is one of several culinary water wells the city hopes to drill over the next several years. If the present growth patterns continue, the city hopes to drill the next well in about two years. Money needed for this water project will come from a city's capital improvement fund. |
