Show Teacher gets acquainted by visiting homes of her kindergarten class By DONETA GATHERUM BOUNTIFUL Believing that all students are important and deserve de-serve the best possible introduction introduc-tion to public schooling, Anna Ainscough, kindergarten teacher at Valley View Elementary School, spent the month of August visiting the homes of all 43 students enrolled in her kindergarten classes. This year, kindergarten students in Davis District underwent a special spe-cial preassessment test during the first few days of school. Ms. Ainscough Ains-cough was concerned that the pressure of a test might be of concern con-cern to some of the five-year-olds. Her solution to the problem was to get acquainted with each child before be-fore the school doors opened and the testing started. Letters were sent to each kindergarten kinder-garten child's home requesting a day and a time for this special get-acquainted get-acquainted visit. Family members were encouraged to be at home to lend support to the kindergarten child. Ms. Ainscough reports that many children were outside their homes, dressed in their best and anxious to meet their teacher. Each visit lasted about one hour. The results of the program, Ms. Ainscough believes, is that the kindergarten kin-dergarten children developed a positive, relaxed attitude about school. Pictures of each child were taken during the home visits. These will be used in the classroom on the birthday calendars. Ms. Ainscough stated, "It was a real bonus to meet the siblings of my new students, some former students, stu-dents, some older students attending attend-ing Valley View and some prospective prospec-tive students."
