Post office retail window service hours have been expanded in Layton effective Sept. 10, according accord-ing to Postmaster Newell Wilson. The new hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The changes follow the announcement by Postmaster General Gen-eral Anthony M. Frank that the postal service will be able to restore service and still comply with con-gressionally-ordered operating fund cuts of $160 million for 1988 and $270 million for 1989. "It is now clear that the savings generated will make it possible for . the postal service to meet the requirements re-quirements of the budget cut," Newell Wilson explained, "so the time has come to readjust window service in a way that best meets our customers' needs. "We are happy we can expand our hours," said Mr. Wilson. "And we'd like to express gratitude to our customers for their patience during the past few months when window hours were curtailed." Window hours in post offices across the nation were reduced last February, after the congressional-ly-ordered cuts were announced. Wilson added that the availability availabil-ity of postage stamps in Layton is being expanded to a number of other retail outlets in the community. commun-ity.
