Show High Water Limits Fishing Areas As has been the case in 5 recent years, waters in southwestern Utah will be high with streams running fast and turbid. Reservoirs will, for the most part, be full. The high water will make stream fishing difficult dif-ficult in many locations for the opening weekend and will preclude stocking in some areas until runoff conditions subside. In reservoirs, good fishing will be the general rule. Boat fishing will most likely produce better results than shore fishing due to high water 'levels. "Best bets" by county will probably be as follows: BEAVER-Minersville Reservoir MILLARD-Corn Creek ; IRON-New Castle Reservoir Washington-Enterprise Reservoir (Upper and lower) KANE-Lake Powell, Wide Hollow Reservoir GARFIELD-Panguitch Lake PIUTE-Otter Creek Reservoir WAYNE-Forsyth Reservoir, Mill Meadow Reservoir SEVIER-Fish Lake, Koosharem Reservoir Minersville Reservoir-Heavy Reservoir-Heavy fishing pressure on. this popular reservoir is again expected for opening weekend. High water in the lake has inundated many of the usual parking and camping areas. A state park is present at the lake with developed camping facilities available to those who are lucky enough to get reser-- reser-- vations early. The high water could result in slower fishing from the shore, but this should not affect boat fishing. Fishing should be fair to good with some rainbows up to 3 pounds being taken. Navajo. Lake-Will probably -i not be acessible for the opening weekend because of heavy snow. It is still frozen. Moderate fishing success and excellent camping facilities can be predicted once the snow melts and stocking can be accomplished. New Castle Reservoir-Once Reservoir-Once again, the reservoir is at capacity so camping and parking of vehicles will be limited. Gill-netting results indicate that fishing should be good for rainbow trout ranging from 1 to 2 pounds. Most fish taken will be from to pound. Panguitch Lake-Access is good from Panguitch. Cedar Breaks Road will not be open. Moderate to heavy pressure is expected. Fishing for rainbow and a few cutthroats. Fishing is expected to be good from both shore and boats. Fish will average mostly about k pound; however, a good population of holdovers around 2-3 pounds is available. A lot of these fish will be taken. Five resorts are available with gas, groceries, licenses, boat rentals, cabins and trailer parks. Two public boat ' ramps are for use free of 1 charge for boaters. Paragonah (Red Creek) Reservoir-Although dam repairs are not completed, this reservoir will be stocked as usual with catchable rainbow trout. Pressure is usually moderate and fishing success good. There are no improved camping facilities. Parowan Creek-High runoff with dirty water will prevent any stocking of catchable rainbow trout for the opener. |
