Show ShippvSUSC Valedictorian A former high school valedictorian will repeat her honors in college during Southern Utah State College's 83rd annual commencement activities Thursday and Friday. Jill Cummings Shipp, Heber City, will present the valedictory address Friday morning during commencement com-mencement exercises for 247 graduating SUSC seniors. Ceremonies start at 9 a.m. on the SUSC upper campus quadrangle. She was also the 1976 valedictorian at Wasatch High School. W. Rolfe Kerr, president of Dixie College, will be the commencement speaker. Emma Lou Thayne, a Utah poet and author, will deliver the baccalaureate sermon at 7 p.m. services Thursday, also on the upper campus quadrangle. Mrs. Shipp was named valedictorian on the basis of her t 3.92 grade point average earned during her four years at SUSC. She will graduate with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She has also completed minors in reading and child development. In addition to her academic accomplishments, Mrs. Shipp has served as a second attendant to Miss SUSC and as a member of the Thunderettes, SUSC's drill team, for two years. She has been listed on the college honor roll every quarter for four years, and she has been named the 1980 outstanding teacher education graduate. Mrs. Shipp is the daughter of Kayle and Deanna Cummings, Heber City. She is married to Russell Ship and the mother of a month-old month-old daughter. |
