Show Granite Youth Orchestra at Zion The Granite Youth Symphony Orchestra, a student orchestra of near-professional near-professional quality, will appear in concert on Sunday, Sun-day, June 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lodge in Zion National Park. This performance is being sponsored by TWA Services, Inc. The Granite Youth Symphony is made up of 88 student musicians selected by audition from the seven high schools of Granite School District in Salt Lake City. The orchestra was organized in 1957 for the primary purpose of providing a greater challenge for outstanding mujsic students. The , orchestra, or-chestra, as it exists today, could be compared with an honors program or an ad vanced placement program for instrumentalists. Many of the participating students study regularly with members of the world famous Utah Symphony Orchestra and most perform as soloists and as members of small ensembles. The performance at Zion Lodge is part of the Youth Symphony's summer tour. , The orchestra will leave Salt Lake City on June 2 and will return on June 16. The orchestra will perform per-form a variety of musical selections from symphonic to : light classical and popular. Every listener should find something of interest in this concert. The concert is open to the public and there will be no admission charge. |
