Show Students win VIC A Awards Honors in cabinet making, carpentry and radio and television repair have been awarded Southern Utah State College students in statewide Vocational Industrial In-dustrial Clubs of America competition. "This is the first year that SUSC students have competed com-peted in the VICA contests. We did very well, with three out of seven students receiving medals for their performances at the recent Brigham Young University meet," says Kenneth S. Munford, advisor of SUSC's newly established VICA chapter. Paul E. Skeem, a senior industrial arts major, received a silver medal in carpentry. The 1975 graduate of Delta High School is the son of Fred and Elva Skem, Hinckley. Another silver medal was. won by Joseph Salas, a freshman industrial arts major, in the area of cabinet . making. He is a 1979 graduate of Cedar High School, the son of Arthur and Carolyn Salas, 3400 West Midvalley Road, Cedar City. The third award, a bronze medal in electronics, went to Gary P. Ward, a freshman electronics major. Ward is the son of Mrs. Marilyn N. Ward, Malad, Idaho, and is a 1974 graduate of Malad High School. Several hundred students competed in the state VICA meet, with separate contests held for high school students and university and college participants Munford said. |
