Show Brass Kettle Contributed By Mrs. Annie S. Condie Mrs. Annie S. Condie made the most recent contribution to the exhibit in the McQuarrie Memorial Me-morial hall. Her gift is a 15-gallon 15-gallon brass kettle which is now worn through in places but has played a definite part in Dixie history. The kettle was purchased by Mrs. Condie nearly 35 years ago from Mr. and Mrs. John Q. McQuarrie Mc-Quarrie before they moved away from St. George. How. long they had owned it she is 'unable to say, but it has been in her possession pos-session since that time, and she has made literally thousands of pounds of soap grease and dozens upon dozens of boxes of lye into hundreds of bars of that good old home-made soap. She has made soap for herself, for her neighbors neigh-bors and friends, sometimes gratis, sometimes on shares or otherwise, until the kettle was too worn through to use. |
