Show FBI Meets Help To Correlate Work Thruout U.S. Various Devices Used By Subversive Agents Demonstrated To Officers As part of the FBI Mobilization plan for National Defense, the Federal Bureau of Investigation held a police conference in St. George on Sept. 18. Jay C. Newman, New-man, in charge of this division of the FBI, advised that similar conferences con-ferences are held on a quarterly basis throughout the United States as a means of coordinating investigative investi-gative activities relating to espionage, espi-onage, sabatage and subversive activities. ac-tivities. Attending the conference were officers from Washington, Iron and Kane counties. Morning Session The morning session of the conference, con-ference, which was open to the public, featured an address by Lawrence Wadsworth, St. George business leader, who called attention at-tention to the activities of foreign and domestic enemies in fostering a new way of life, which has no place in our democratic form of government. Sheriff Antone B. Prince of Washington county, who made arrangements ar-rangements for the conference to be held in the Wadsworth theatre building, made a brief address of welcome and Mr. Newman, who conducted the meeting, outlined the FBI Law Enforcement Officers Of-ficers Mobilization plan for National Na-tional Defense, which was inaugurated inaug-urated in 1939 following the proclamation proc-lamation of the President of the United States designating the FBI as the central clearing agency in the investigation of un-American activities. Afternoon Session At the afternoon session, which was open only to law enforcement officers, FBI Special Agent, John D. Furrh gave a jecture and demonstration dem-onstration on the' subject, "Bombs and Explosives". He demonstrated various devices used by subversive agents and outlined suggested precautionary pre-cautionary measures to be taken in protecting human life in the event officers are confronted with situations wherein such devices are employed. In the absence of Acting Sheriff William M. Dalton of Iron county, Deputy Sheriff S. C. Lamb of Cedar City discussed the highlights of the Donald Lawton Condit murder case, outlining the successful suc-cessful investigation and prosecutive prose-cutive steps taken. Climaxing the conference was the presentation of a motion picture pic-ture and lantern slides showing police duties in the City of lm-don, lm-don, England, in war-time and the destructive results of air raids. |
