Show Verdict of 'Not Guilty' For Cook and 'Guilty' For Shanley Brought In A verdict of "not guilty" for Honore Cook and "guilty" for Wiliam Shanley was the verdict handed down yesterday evening by the jury who heard the evidence evi-dence for and against these men in the case brought against them by the state. They were charged by the state with "unlawful slaughtering of livestock without a slaughterer's license", which is an Indictable Misdemeanor. The case went to the jury at about 5 p, m., yesterday (Wednesday) (Wednes-day) and returned the verdict at approximately 11 p. m. Upon hearing the verdict Nor-vel Nor-vel Callister, defense attorney, asked that District Judge Will L. Hoyt delay sentence' until the next session of court on November 6. This was not opposed by the state's attorney's, District Attorney At-torney E. J. Pickett and County Attorney Andrew Pace. The men were first charged before be-fore Justice of the Peace George F. Whitehead who bound them over to the district court. The men were released on bond with Cook's set at 5250 and Shanley's at S2.500. The sentence that can be given Shanley by Judge Hoyt is a fine of not less than $25 or more than 51,000, or imprisonment in the county jail for not less than 60 days and not more than one year or a combination of both fine and imprisonment. |
