Show World Day of Prayer planned March 5 at Kingsbury "World Day of Prayer" w ill again be held in Vernal joining women in over 150 countries for peace, justice and reconciliation through prayer services continuing a tradition begun in 1887 by Church Women United. Kingsbury Community Church will host a World Day of Prayer service Friday. March 5 at 11 a m., following an agenda designed this year by the women of Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland. The theme for this year is "People of God: Gathered for Worship. Scattered for Service." In the past, by means of offerings on this day, Church Women United has developed action programs and projects to further peace, justice and the empowerment of women. Church Women United, official sponsor of the World Day of Prayer in the United States, calls to all who may wish to gather in worship as members of the local and world community, regardless of faith, to stand united for peace forming a belt of prayer around the world, each community assigned an individual time. Church Women United has not been able to form a chapter here. Kingsbury Community Church has accepted as community outreach to host this program in 1982. St. James Catholic Church has filed for permission to host in 1983. Formation of a chapter would place this effort in the hands of various church women instead of the churches providing an opportunity for unification without denomination in a growing Vernal community of more varied beliefs. Kingsbury Community Church Sacred Dance choir will present a number on the program. Readers will be Sister Elizabeth and Vicki Anderson, St. James Catholic Church; Alice White and Evelyn Arnold, Kingsbury Community Com-munity Church; Gladys Phillips, St. Paul's Episcopal; Marie Crowell, First Christian and Thelma Hicks, First Baptist. Organist is Cindy Fountaine. |
