Show CAMP VERN AL DUP The Camp Vernal DUP February meeting was held on Feb. 19 at the home of Alice Wall, with Wanda Jorgensen and Velma Erickson as co-hostesses. co-hostesses. Cherry pie and punch was served to 15 members. Prayer was offered by Alice Fox. Pledge of allegiance was led by Jean Guy. The song, "Sweet Genevieve," was led by chorister Wanda Jorgensen. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Several members were excused due to illness. Registrar Elizabeth Hatch asked that all applicant members work on the completion of their papers. We have six eligible unregistered members. A discussion followed on whether we should have a project to help raise funds to help with the tabernacle renovation. A motion was made by Ada Anderson and seconded by Jean Guy, and carried that we would participate. Isabelle Johnson showed a silk screen picture of the Tabernacle, taken on dedication day. These pictures will be donated by JoAnn Hardy, and the members can sell them. Mary Freeman seconded the motion and it was carried as made. Mrs. Hardy will sign the pictures to make them authentic. The history of James Peter Olsen was completed com-pleted by Wanda Jorgensen. Ada Anderson read a resolution: "I Believe God Created Me to be Happy." The lesson given by lesson leader. Mary Freeman, was the history of Jens Hansen. Early in life he was introduced to the teachings of the LDS church by the missionaries. Converted and baptised, he and others organized a small branch of the church, but hecause of resentment and persecution, some of the members dropped out. The Hansen family left Denmark in December 1R.S2 and arrived in Utah in 1R53. His wife and brother died on the journey from cholera He Inter married the brother's wife to help the family on the way In 1R.V1, wanting a family of his own. he married Caroline Knutson Jens served three missions to the Scandinavian Scan-dinavian countries. He married more w ives than any of his countrymen. 14 He provided equally for all and they lived harmoniously and agreeably. He died a violent death. June 28. 1897. when a pole fell on his head. |
