Show Sterling scholars to be nominated F.ach year there are many scholarships which high school seniors can apply for, but one of the most prestigious scholarships offered in the State of Utah is the Sterling Scholarship Award, sponsored by the Deseret News. This will be the second year for Sterling Scholarship competition in the northeastern section of the state. The seniors competing are from the following districts: Altamont, Daggett, Duchesne, Manila, Morgan, North Summit, South Summit, Tabiona, Park City, North Rich, South Rich, Uintah, Union and Wasatch. Kach high school may nominate one student in each of the following 12 categories: English, Speech-Drama, Mathematics, Social Science, Science, Foreign Language, Visual Arts, Vocational Education, Ilomemaking. Business Education, Music and General Scholarship. High schools are not required to make an entry in all 12 categories and students may be nominated in only one category. Following the nominee selection at the local high school level, there will be a final judging process to determine the winners and runners-up, which will be made on the basis of scholarship, leadership, citizenship and character as demonstrated through activity and interest in the particular area selected. The winners in each category will receive a full tuition scholarship to a post high school iastitution of his or her choice in the state of Utah, and will also receive a $200 cash award. Runners-up will receive a full tuition scholarship and a 5100 cash award. Nominations will be made at the local high school level. Final judging will be held April 29 at I'nion High School in Roosevelt. |
