Show nmi Ban Himiiniuiiiiii Busing answer Dear Jack: I received your welcome and friendly paper yesterday and one of the first things I saw was in big black letters the words, more buses needed to meet rapid growth. To me that would be a very simple and easy question to answer. Just build school houses where the kids are at. You would also have a better community. When you take a school away from a community you ruin it for any future development and all its social life. We would all be better off if we bought at home, sold at home and stayed at home we would always have a home. Best personal regards, JOE HASLEM Vernfl Exprw bff ZZ " v V t I Vernal Area Advertiser 789-3511 Classified Ad Deadme 11 A.M. Tub. Athletics and music programs will be more difficult to schedule, and some, students may have to participate or practice during vacation periods. School spirit will un,-doublely un,-doublely suffer because of the divided student body. Extra-curricular programs pro-grams have bound this community together for many a year and should not be put off w ith a w himper. 5) Savings Intended. Realistically optimal op-timal savings would almost never be achieved. It lies in theory only. There need not be a either year round school or double session approach. First of all the high school can still handle for up to 5 more years the grow th even if the 9th grade was moved there. We presently have the smallest sophomore class which has come along for some time Discovery Elementary was originally designed to be able to be used as a middle mid-dle school when and if the time came. Only a shower area need be added. Here the 5th and 6th grade could be housed and the 7th and 8th housed at the present junior high school. The board already has one elementary beginning construction in the Vernal area. With this addition student pressure will be taken off our schools for some time to come. The design of Discovery was originally planned so that 4 additional classrooms could be utilized in times of pressure. After all it is the teacher in that classroom which makes the difference, dif-ference, not necessarily the building. What about the stage areas for classrooms to get up over the hump? Most are equipped with sound-proof metal curtains as well as drapes. Then there might be relocatable classroom units to add to our buildings and later be sold back to other districts when our bulge in our enrollment tapers off. 6) Burn out. Our teachers and administrators ad-ministrators are hard pressed now especially when all the extra curricular activities are included. Someone may have misled some of the teaching corps that there will be more money for them in the year round program. To put it bluntly there will not be' simply because the state is still on the W.P.U. System whereby they reimburse the districts some say $1000 per student despite how long the school year runs. That does not place additional finances into the coffers cof-fers to pay additional salaries. In my opinion the bottom line is still the disintegration of the family unit, the cornerstone of America. It is a uniquely destructive innovation bearing all the trademarks of a horror movie. As a parent first, I find this plan devastating. As a teacher it is filled with many traps. As an administrator I view it as an ill-advised time bomb with a very short fuse. If the plan is so good, why has so very, very few (and none in Utah despite other area's growth) utilized year round schooling before this time. I urge all to not support the year round concept and notify your board members to this fact before a disastrous decision is made by them which could hurt you and your children for many years to come. Thank you. WAYNE REID |
