Sky West Airline of St. George will begin serving Vernal with four daily flights to Salt Lake City next Monday. Sky West flights will leave the Vernal Municipal Airport at 7: 15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. Flights from Salt Lake City will leave at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., 3:55 p.m. and 7: 10 p.m. for Vernal. The flight will take 45 minutes and cost $56, pointed out Brad Gale, Sky West station manager. Sky West is using a 19-passenger turboprop Metroline aircraft. The plane is pressurized and always has two pilots aboard. Brad Gale is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Gale, former residents of Dutch John, where the senior Gale was a Utah Highway Patrol trooper. Before coming to Vernal, Gale was stationed in Cedar City as station agent for Sky West for the past two years. Gale is originally from Milford, Utah. He attended Southern Utah State College in Cedar City. He married Beth Steele and thev have a seven month old son. Gale is an Eagle Scout, he served a San Antonio Spanish LDS mission, and his hobbies are photography and collecting peace officer's arm patches. He has patches from all 50 states. Besides Gale, three other local residents have been employed at the Vernal Sky West terminal formerly occupied by Frontier. The terminal will be manned from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m., and one aircraft will stay overnight at the Vernal airport. Dean Reynolds says that when Frontier pulls out he plans to take a two year furlough from Frontier and his work as Airport Manager. Other Frontier employee, Gary Osadchuk, plans to go into private business and others will be transferred. |
