Hawks remain undefeated at 8-0 The Hawks remained unbeaten in the Bantam League at 8-0 due to a 24 to 12 win over the second place Mites, Saturday in the National Guard Armory. Ar-mory. Darren Wilde fired in two field goals, Valton Mortensen popped in a two-pointer and Seth Norwood tossed in a free throw for a 7 to 4 Mite lead after one quarter of action. However, the Mites dried up in the shooting world in the second quarter as they were blanked 9-0. Timothy Paugh, Brant Ruesink and Mike Lance put in field goals and Alec Clark and Lance tossed in free throws for a 13 to 7 Hawk lead at the end of the second quarter. Both the Mites and Hawks fired in three points each in the third quarter, which made the score 16 to 10 in favor of the Hawks. The Hawks outscored the Mites, 8 to 2, in the fourth quarter to win the contest by the score of 24 to 12. Mike Lance, Robert Giese, Brant Ruesink and David Merino fired in field goals for the Hawks in the fourth quarter. The top scorer for the Hawks was Mike Lance with nine points on four field goals and one free throw. Lance put in four points in the first quarter and three points in the second quarter. He put in one field goal in the fourth quarter. Also scoring counters for the Hawks were Brant Ruesink, 4: David Merino, 4; Alec Clark, 3; Robert Giese, 2 and Timothy Paugh, 2. The Hawks hit 4 out of 10 free throws. Scoring points for the Mites were: Darren Wilde, 4; Seth Norwood. 3; Valgon Mortensen, 2; Derick Adams. 2 and Mark Hacking, 1. The Mites put in 2 out of 6 free throws. The four way tie for third place was broken when the Rams downed the Dinos, 25 to 15 and the Bugs beat the KnaLs, 24 to 21. The Hawks are in first place in the Bantam League at 8-0 after eight weeks of action. The Mites are in second place at 6-2 and the Bugs and Rams are tied for third place at 3-5. The Knats and Dinos are tied for fifth place at 2-6 Vernal's Dinos had a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Rams outscored the Dinos, 10 to 3 in the second quarter for a 13-7 advantage. The score at the end of the third quarter was: Rams, 19 and Dinos, 11. The final score was: Rams, 25 and Dinos, 15. Rial Chew was the top scorer for the Rams with 13 points on six field goals and one free throw. Also scoring counters for the Rams were: Scott Merkley, 5; Quinn Downard, 4; David Wood, 2 and Richard Rust, 1. Chew scored six points in the third quarter, three in the second quarter and four in the fourth quarter. The Rams hit 3 out of 11 free throws. Corey Clark was the top scorer for the Dinos with six points. Cass Cook and Kam Pope poured in four points and Nelson White scored one point. The Dinos hit 1 out of 4 free throws. The Kruits had a 6 to 4 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Bugs rallied to Lake a two point lead of 16 to 14 after two quarters. The Bugs had a 20 to 18 lead at the end of the third quarter and went on to win the game by the score of 24 to 21. Manuel Sisneros was the high scorer in the game for tlx- Bugs with 13 points on six field goals and one free throw. He put in four field coals in the second quarter. The top scorer for the Knats was Rayn Remington with eight points on three field goals and two free throws.
