Show Ute Tribe must again vote on CUP Members of the Ute Tribe will be required to vote again on whether to approve the Ute Compact considered essential to construction of the giant Central Utah Project, the tribe's attorney at-torney says. Less than 30 percent of tribal members turned out Tuesday of last week to vote on the compact, which was approved this year by the Utah Legislature and still must be passed by Congress before taking effect. Attorney Stephen J. Boyden said the tribal constitution requires at least 30 percent participation in any referendum referen-dum like that involving the compact. Had Tuesday's vote been valid 317 votes were needed the referendum would have failed, he said. A total of 142 voted against the compact, 106 for it, of the 248 votes cast. |
