Show You-th tfo experience week-long tfesf ivaS A week of dance, music, fine arts and crafts will be featured during the Uintah Uin-tah School District's annual Week of the Festival of the Arts for the Young, April 21-26. The state-wide festival, the last week in April, is under the sponsorship of the Utah State Office of Education, Utah Alliance for Arts Education, Utah Arts Council and the Utah Congress of Parents and Teachers. All school districts in the state are encouraged to participate. The Festival of the Dance will be Monday, April 21 at 7 p.m. in the Vernal Junior High School auditorium. The festival will feature the Uintah High School Flag Twirlers performing "Machine Gun," the Maeser third grade performing "What Would You Be?" and "Flight of Fantasy", and the Uintah High School Dance Club, "Selection" "Selec-tion" and "Finale", traditional and contemporary dances will be presented by the Todd second, third and fourth grades; old time favorites, by the Uintah Uin-tah Senior Citizens, "Twenty-First Century Cen-tury Reflections", "Consider Yourself at Home", "Star Wars", and disco by the Central fourth, fifth and sixth grades; "A Visit to a Future Planet", by Naples third grade; and "Space Shuffles" by Ashley fifth grade. The Festival of Music will be Wednesday, Wednes-day, April 23 at 7 p.m. in the Vernal Junior High auditorium. Selections will be presented by the Vernal Youth Orchestra, Or-chestra, the Naples Elementary bands, the Vernal Junior High bands, the Naples sixth grade, Maeser first grade, Todd fourth and fifth grades, and Central Cen-tral first, second and third grades. The Festival of Fine Arts and Crafts will be Fridiy 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the Vernal Ver-nal Junior High School gymnasium. In addition to art and craft dispalys from each of the ten schools in the district, there will be twenty-five exhibits and demonstrations from members of the community. Many craftsmen have graciously accepted ac-cepted trie invitation to exhibit their talents. The Little Gallery of Arts will be in charge of the adult art exhibit. Anyone wishing to enter a painting should contact Mrs. Don Hatch. Erland f'reece is in charge of the photographic art display. He should be contacted by persons interested in entering the display. A new festival will be added this year and will give children the opportunity to expcricriM: some of the art forms. Saturday from 9 a in. to 2 p.m. the festival for children with arts and crafts will be on the lawn of the Vernal Junior High School. Activities included are bubble blowing, collage, dance, dress-up, face painting, finger painting, . mime, music, potter's wheel, print press, sculpture, and vegetable prints. In addition to the district sponsored events of the festival, schools are encouraged en-couraged to have in-school events in the arts to place a special emphasis on the importance of the arts in the lives of people of all ages. Central school is placing a special emphasis on music and frequently has volunteer mothers enhance their music program. Maeser school has parents coming during the week to instruct drawing, shading, and painting, music and crafts. The Uintah Learning Center has two in-school programs pro-grams arranged during the week which will feature the modern dance group from the high school. The Learning Center will also have a spring festival May 1, and the public is invited. Naples school is engaged in many art-related activites. The hallways of the school have four murals of different school projects. The fifth grade painted a wall mural, "Land of Shapes," a design created by Jimmy Bastina. Other murals were designed and painted by Naples Gifted and Talented classes. A school-wide art show is scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. |
