Two Uintah students go to youth concert Linda Troester and Rhonda Rhodes of Uintah High have been selected to participate in the "America's Youth in Concert". The 1980 program, sponsored by the Universal Academy for Music, seeks to demonstrate internationally the high quality and fine character of American's Youth while enriching and expanding the musical and cultural horizons of the young musicians. "To be selected from all high school and college competition throughout America is an honor and a privilege that very seldom comes to smaller, outlying communities such as Vernal," said UHS Band director Randy Houtz. "It is a credit to these two fine musicians musi-cians to achieve such a goal. Uintah High is very proud to have such fine representation in 'America's Youth in Concert'." Students from each state are selected for "America's Youth in Concert" by individual audition. There will be a performance per-formance at New York City's Carnegie Hall prior to departure for Europe. Students will concertize in London, Paris, Geneva, Innsbruck, Venice, Florence and Rome. "I am so amazed!" Linda said, "I never dreamed this would happen to me." The "American's Youth in Concert" 1980 is organized into ensembles of Concert Con-cert Choir, Concert Band and Symphony Sym-phony Orchestra. Intensive rehearsals and recording sessions will precede the Carniegie Hall concert. The young musicians will perform under the baton of outstanding university conductors. "We did the tape just for the heck of it," said Rhonda. "Being chosen was the farthest thing from my mind." t i - UNION HIGH SCHOOL Cougarettes will be hosting their annual spring review. |
