Show Xi Alpha Xi pian Founders' Day Banquet Xi Alpha Xi chapter met April 7 in the home of Juanita Oden, for the fifteenth meeting of the year. Members expressed pleasure and were honored to welcome as a guest, Kathy Ingram, a member of Beta Sigma Phi, formerly of Houston, Texas. President Carolyn Pollard called the business meeting to order for the fifteen members present. Committee reports were brief and attention focused on finalizing the plans for the Founders' Day Banquet, April 30, at the Lamplighter Inn. This celebration is an annual affair for Beta Sigma Phi world wide and as the organization will be launching its Golden Anniversary, members are highly excited about this approaching milestone. Following the business session member Joyce Melchor, introduced her brother-in-law, Alfonso Melendez to present the cultural program for the evening. Alfonso is a native of El Salvador, Central America, migrating to this country several years ago, to attend at-tend BYU. He intrigued members with personal experiences of life comparisons com-parisons in El Salvador and our state. Photographs and displays of handmade clothing acquainted members with the traits and personalities of the serious hardworking native population. "El Salvador," commented Alfonso, "is a very good resort spot. The climate is very agreeable and the terrain mountainous moun-tainous with many volcanoes." Excitement Excite-ment stirred as he stated taxes are very low, but members relocation ideas ceased when he spoke of $2.00 a day wages. Alfonso concluded his program with group participation and a promise of native recipes from Mrs. Melendez. |
