Wafer lovers cool off m Vernal Community pool . , vn taking part in the 12 noon to Summertime has turned the weather into dry and hot, but girls, boys, moms and dads can cool off from the heat in the Vernal Community Pool. Open swimming is held Monday through Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. The Vernal Pool began its third session ses-sion of swimming lessons this past Monday. Mon-day. When asked to comment on the swimming lesson sessions, Kara Goldbach, assistant manager at the pool, remarked, "a lot of interest has been shown in the beginner classes. We have received good participation in the classes. I would like to see a few more of the older kids join us." Kara added, "we start out getting the boys and girls used to the water and working toward getting them completely complete-ly under water in the beginner classes. We work on blowing bubbles and holding their breath. We have sixty kids in the beginners classes. They are really real-ly eager to learn to swim, but some are really scared of the water. We have to teach them to get used to going under the surface, and mainly not being afraid of the water. Then we go into skills such as floating, front and back. We combine that with kicking after they have mastered the basic skills. We start teaching them strokes such as the crawl, backstroke and various others." Swimming lessons are held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the Vernal Community Pool. Beginner and intermediate classes begin at 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. A moms and tots class is held from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The third session of swimming lessons began this past Monday and will last for two weeks. The first day of the next three sessions is as follows: July 16, fourth session; July 30, fifth session and August 13, sixth session. According to Kara Goldbach the last two sessions have a lot of openings. The beginner classes are full in the third and fourth sessions, but there is still plenty of room for swimmers in the intermediate and moms and tots classes. The intermediate in-termediate classes consist of advanced beginner, intermediate swimmer and advanced swimmer. "Mainly what we are aiming toward in the moms and tots classes is to avoid any drownings with young children. So what we want to do is to teach the children what they should do if they fall in the water. We tell the mother what to do and they teach their children," stated Kara Goldbach. There is also a ladies swim class at the pool Monday, Wednesday and Friday Fri-day from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. "We get a pretty good crowd of ladies but we still need more people to come to Je lap swimming classes, which are held trorn 6 to 8 a.m. and from 12 noon to 1PJ Monday through Friday. We real y Zd piople to come to lap swmmmg in afrnoon one. Only two people have been taking pan in me noon to l p fc class," remarked Kara.
