Show HOW MANY WORKERS DOES DC REALLY NEED? The District of Columbia asked for funds to create 789 new civil service jobs in its 1980 budget, now being reviewed by Congress. That prompted a charge from Congress' General Accounting Office that the city really doesn't know w hether it needs the employees. As reported in The Washington Star, "The District is in the dark because, except in a few isolated offices, it never established guidelines saying how much work an employee holding a particular par-ticular job should be expected to perform in a given amount of time . . Once the District knows how much work to expect from an em-ploee, em-ploee, it will know more accurately how many workers it needs." i |
