Show Council approves budget In a noon meeting Wednesday, June 22 Vernal City Council approved a final city budget of $1,610,897, 41 percent higher than last year. "A reason for the increase in expenses," ex-penses," said Joe Bradberry, city finance director, "is because it is the first time in the history of the city that expenses and costs have been identified instead of left to the imagination." "Other reasons for the increases," continued Bradberry, is there is a fund for the depreciation of equipment used by the city." Before this time depreciation costs were a general expense for the city at the end of the year. "Each department will have such a fund," Bradberry said. "Fifteen to twenty percent of the budget increases can be contributed to inflation," he added. "For example gas and fuel prices have gone up 5'2 percent per-cent a month, that is 60 percent last year. He also said that a new accounting system has increased the budget. The new system will require each municipal department to pay for services it receives from other city departments. "When each department of the city budgets these costs, the budget is more accurate," stated Joe Bradberry. |
