Show RAISING CANE Most of us think of America Amer-ica as the most industrialized nation in the world, yet we are also one of the greatest and most efficient agricultural agricul-tural nations in the world. Interestingly, our own r farms meet most of our needs even for two of our three largest food imports, sugar and meat. The third is coffee which we don't grow. However, our own sugar industry, which contributes $10.5 billion to the nation's economy and employs over 100,000 people, is being threatened by the dumping of foreign surplus sugar on our ' markets. -'' 3W0' Many concerned legislators are urging Congress to adopt a Sugar Regulation Act which would protect our sugar industry in-dustry and keep us from becoming dependent on foreign for-eign suppliers. They are very aware of our continuing and bitter experience with OPEC oil countries. |
