Show School board gives okay to 79-80 budget The Uintah County School Board approved $11,746,000 in anticipated expenditures for the 1979-80 final budget in its regular meeting last week. The property tax mill levy will be down 4 points this year by state law. This year's mill levy will be 42.57 compared to 46.57 last year. "That is a savings of $303,270," said Dan Turner, board clerk. The final budget includes a 7.22 percent increase in salaries to teachers and a 10.6 percent increase overall: including insurance and increment increases. Other expenses in the budget are $483,097 for pupil transportation, $733,332 operation of plant, $183,021 administration cost and $117,406 in recreation. Bill Caldwell, principal of Uintah High School, presented the board with a new attendance policy. The new policy requires a student missing five days of school and not more than nine percent from a particular par-ticular class, to petition in writing to the teacher for a grade and credit in that class. The teacher may deny credit and the grade, make an agreement with the student which extends into the next term or restore the grade and credit if circumstances warrant it. The new policy defines excused absences as absences due to "illness or unavoidable emergencies." Only five excused absences are allowed per quarter. The board moved to allow the school to implement the new policy. The board also approved an administration ad-ministration salary schedule which is . linked to the achievements of the administrator. ad-ministrator. The salary schedule would mean no increase for first year administrators, 4 percent increase for acceptable performance, per-formance, 5-7 percent increase for expected performance, 8-9 percent increase for commendable performance per-formance and 12-15 percent increase for distinguished performance. After annual evaluations are completed, com-pleted, the superintendent will make recommendations to the board regarding the placement of each administrator ad-ministrator in the appropriate category. A group of ten concerned citizens presented reactions about the effectiveness ef-fectiveness of a teacher at Todd Elementary. , The board moved to give time in the next meeting to officially hear the concerns and to come to a decision on the matter. |
