Show Kraut Featured In Fun-To-Eat Hero This "New Hero" is a taste-tempting combination of meats and fresh vegetables arranged in layers on a split loaf of French bread. The most exciting part of the sandwich is the golden relish topping made from sauerkraut, sauer-kraut, yogurt and mustard. The tasty kraut mixture is spooned over the top layer of the filling just before serving. With warmer weather approaching, ap-proaching, the "Hero" is perfect per-fect for picnics and outdoor activities. Ingredients for the sandwich can be easily packed into a cooler to assemble when ready to eat. Steinfeld's Sauerkraut is the recommended brand to use in The New Hero. The New Hero 2 cups well-drained Steinfeld's Sauerkraut 12 cup yogurt 1 teaspoon prepared mustard 1 loaf (15-inch) French bread Butter or margarine Fresh spinach 4 thin slices onion 6 ounces sliced salami 3 rectangular slices Swiss cheese, halved 3 thinly sliced Steinfeld's Dill Pickles 3 ounces smoked sliced pastrami 1 thinly sliced tomato Mix kraut with yogurt and mustard. Split French bread, lengthwise, and spread with butter or margarine. On bottom bot-tom half of bread, layer spinach leaves, onion, salami, Swiss cheese, dill pickles! pastrami and tomato. Top with kraut mixture and cover with top layer of bread. Secure with picks. Serve, sliced diagonally in l-"nch thick slices, serving 2 per person. ' Variations: Use 14 pound sliced liverwurst in place of salami and Steinfeld's sweet pickle chips in place of dills. Layer on Italian bread or layer in pocket bread and slice in halves or wedges . to serve. Another time, layer half of filling on each side of French or Italian bread and top with crisp alfalfa sprouts. Cut diagonally and serve "open-face" style. And, mayonnaise may-onnaise may be used in place of yogurt.
