Show Vernal Lions Club inducts new officers A slate of ten new officers was inducted in-ducted into the Vernal Lions Club at their bi-monthly meeting at the Lamplighter Restaurant according to out going Lions Club pres.dent, Lowell W'ardle. Mike Sullivan, manager of Day's Thriftway Market in Vernal heads up the grouj of new officers as the club president" He will be assisted by 1st Vice President Dave Condon 2nd V ce President Lynn Nelson and 3rd Vice President Art Schaefermeyer Vard Openshaw will succeed himself m the Treasurers chair and Clayton Curtis was re-elected as club Secretary. New members of the board of directors were elected for two-year terms. They are Glade Watkins and Karl Maghori. The new Lion Tamer is Dick Offutt and Gary Taylor will serve as the Tail Twister. Mike Sullivan is the out -going 1st Vice President Keith McDonald is the former 2nd Vice President and Mark L Batty has served this past year as 3rd Vice President. Paul Batty and Reed Birchell are the out-going directors and Lynn Nelson the out-going Lion Tamer. Karl Magliori and Donnell Wardle served serv-ed this past year as Tail Twisters. A memorial tribute was held at the Wednesday night meeting last week honoring two Lions who died this year. Lion Gary Taylor paid tribute to Lion Stan King who served thirty-six years in the Vernal Club with 100 percent attendance at-tendance for thirty-five of those years. Mr. Taylor noted that he served as an officer or committeemember every year. Lion Larson Caldwell paid tribute to Lion Grant Garner for his integrity and success and his work for the blind and noted that Mr. Garner had donated the corneas of his eyes to the eye-bank. In taking the reins of the Vernal service ser-vice club, the new Lions prexy, Mike Sullivan, noted a need for more visibility visibili-ty for the club in the community as well as to put the fun back into Lionism and challenged the members to increase its membership by 20 percent. The out-going president, Lowell War-die, War-die, reported on the very successful . state convention hosted by the Vernal Club, its sight-conservation campaign and the club's contributions to the Utah Foundation for the Blind. The Vernal Club also has provided two $100 scholarships scholar-ships for worthy students. Next meeting for the Vernal Lions Club will be on July 11 with a family night. |
