Show Services cite former resident Word was received by the family of Thomas Glenn Alexander of his death. He died June 22 at his home in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 94. Mr. Alexander was born in Bulington, Kansas, February 3, 1885; married Cora Mae Hazard of Saquache, Colorado, December 21, 1904. They moved to Vernal in 1914; were parents of five children. She died January 15, 1951. Mr. Alexander later married Wanda May Merkley. They had four children. Mr. Alexander was well known figure in and around the Vernal area some years ago. He built the Cobble Rock Service Station, on the corner of Main Street and South Vernal Ave. This was called the Vernal Auto Co. He owned many ranches in Jensen, Dry Fork Canyon, the old Power Plant ranch; what is now the Ashley Oil Field and much of the Vernal City area land. He owned and operated the old Alexander Dairy; a stage line from Vernal to Salt Lake City; a freight line from Vernal to Price; hauled wool from Bonanza; was a member of the Vernal Lions Club; Vernal City Councilman; owned and operated the confectionary and cafe; owned the old Farmers Exchange building on Main Street that still stands next to the Texaco. He was instrumental in-strumental in getting the water for the Vernal Cemetery and was always ready to give a helping hand to church and schools. He moved to Harrison, Arkansas, where he owned a ranch, then moved to Springfield, Missouri, where he lived until his death. He was baptized into the LDS church in February 1977,-at the age of 92. Survivors are: widow and three daughters, Elizabeth Edmonson, Jennie Arlene Taylor, Marjorie Sue Rone all of Springfield; Mrs. Wallace (Doris May) Calder, Winnemucca, Nevada; Ralph Glenn Alexander, ElCaion. CA; Mrs. Virtus (Sadie Violet) McConkie and Harold H. Alexander both of Vernal; one sister, Sadie Bliss, Albuquerque, New Mexico: 19 grandchildren: 48 greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren and 10 great-greatgrandchildren. Two sons, Thomas Glenn and George Mirle preceded him in death here in Vernal. Funeral services were held in Springfield June 25 at the Greenlawn Funeral home. Pallbearers were Tom Edmonson, Dave Taylor, R. J. Alexander, Bob Rone, Harry Bennet and Rex Bell. Interment was in the Rivermonte Cemetery at Springville. - - ol ls, I j Tom Alexander buried. |
