Show Former forest supervisor dies Andrew Ray McConkie, 67, died June 25, 1979 in Salt Lake City of cancer. He is a former Vernal resident and supervisor of Ashley National Forest for about 12 years. Born May 5, 1912, in Moab, a son of George Wilson and Sarah Ellenor Somerville McConkie. He attended schools in LaSalle and Moab; attended BYU and graduated from Utah State University. In 1973 he retired after 40 years with the U.S. Forest Service having most recently served as Assistant Supervisor of the Bridger National Forest and Supervisor of the Ashley National forest; married Beatrice Stephenson, December 21, 1937, in the Manti LDS Temple ; was an ; active member of the LDS Church. j Survivors: wife, St. George; two sons, two daughters, Alan, Red Bank, j New Jersey; Roy, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Merill (Sandra) Fisher, St. George; Mrs. Ronald (Sarah) Harris, i Kaysville; 12 grandchildren, one brother and two sisters, Wilson, St. , George; Faye Westenskaw, Murray; Ina Young, St. George. Funeral services were held Friday in '.; the St. George 10th Ward Chapel. In- terment was in the Holden Cemetery following graveside services. i |
